November is National Post Month - NaNoWriMo, NaBloPoMo, NaVloPoMo & NaPodPoMo 2008

I'm gearing up for National Podcast Post Month or NaPodPoMo as the cool kids are calling it. ;-)

Last year was a last minute effort to participate alongside National Novel Writing Month NaNoWriMo (50,000 words by Nov. 30th), National Blog Post Month NaBloPoMo (1 blog post per day) and National Vlog Post Month NaVloPoMo (1 video post per day) which all have marathon post sessions during the month of November.

The reason I post this is to encourage you to participate in one or more of the 4 National Post Events. Why? Because it's a great way to get something done. If you've always wanted to start a blog, but have been paralyzed with the "What should it be about?" question then NaBloPoMo is for you. If you've thought video would be cool, but aren't sure how to do it then NaVloPoMo is your crash course.

You get the idea.

The whole point is THE DOING!

Getting started on any project is the hardest thing to do. So why not take the plunge with a whole bunch of other folks at the same time? Quality isn't as important as the quantity. Sure it's not going to be pretty, but in a short 30 days you are going to know a whole lot more than you do now. Heck, you might even get good at it.

Expand your reach and get started.

Cheers!

Luis and I have been using Blog Talk Radio for our show Tech in Twenty. I had always wanted to give the live show a try.

Here are some thoughts:
• Having the intro music set on auto play is great. Have it edited down to fade out as you start speaking. On one show there was no one to handle the switchboard to turn the music off. It made it a challenge to start the show properly.
• Be prepared for things to go wrong. Roll with it. It's live and you never know what's going to happen.
• Having a co-host or a guest is a great way to move the show along. Luis and I have the show set for 20 minutes, but we've gone as long as 30 because the chat was so good.

Doing a show every evening has been fun. Not as difficult as I would have thought and not as time consuming as a traditional podcast.

I like them both, but for a marathon like NaPodPoMo, it's good to give new things a try.

Cheers!

As many of you know, I am really going all out this year. Two years ago I successfully completed National Blog Post Month. I was able to successfully complete National Podcast Post Month last year and this year wanted to try National Novel Writing Month. At the (relatively) last minute, I decided to try both, which is going to be an incredible challenge. Track my progress at mynovelapproach.com.

Jennifer is right. Pick one (or more) and give it a shot! They are all great fun! I know that NaPodPoMo has launched some podcasts that I still listen to, plus there is a lot of support that goes around in each of these events. Just jump in with both feet and try it out!
