Participating in Community Events
While the monthly Social Media Club meetings are a great place to connect and get energized, there is so much more going on in San Antonio. From Tweetups to Mixers to Camps. San Antonio has no shortage Social Media-esque event happening during any given month. Attending a few of these local events will build up the community and increase your network.
Participating in community events doesn't stop at the local level. Being involved in the Social Media Community at large is an even better way to maximize the "If you get it, share it" model. What we're doing here just cuts the surface of what's going on in the community outside our city limits. Austin and Houston are but a short drive away.
There are also plenty of opportunities to do new and interesting things right in our own backyard. For example last month SMCSA was invited to participate in the Power Players Presents Urban Networking Event. We had fun sharing our knowledge about the online tools available to the young entertainers. For most of these young talented individuals, MySpace is the one and only online network. Yet we were able to live stream our interviews with them using the free online tool Ustream. Exposure to just that one tool opened new doors for them to engage their community. Imagine doing that in the non-profit and educational world?
We had a discussion over pancakes later that night and decided that Social Media Club San Antonio is ready for more "On the Road with SMCSA" opportunities. We'll spread the word about future events as they present themselves. Want to join the fun? It's simple. Show up and "share it".
Keeping each other informed about upcoming events is one of the best ways we can continue to grow not only Social Media Club but the community as well.
